Description
A dual-acting rupture disc with a knife blade and clamping ring assembly on one side, and perforations and a pre-cut section on the other.
Our dual-acting design allows the CAL-VAC to do the work of two rupture discs at a single installation point. It relieves low positive pressure (as low as 1 inch of water column) on one side, while relieving a slightly higher negative pressure from the other. The CAL-VAC's flat-seat, easy-to-clean design reduces product buildup, making it easier to meet FDA requirements.
Relieve ultra-low vacuum or positive pressure conditions with the highly accurate, bidirectional CAL-VAC rupture disc.
Our dual-acting design allows the CAL-VAC to do the work of two rupture discs at a single installation point. It relieves low vacuum pressure (as low as 1 inch of water column) on one side, while relieving a slightly higher pressure from the other.
Looking for the POS-A-SET rupture disc? Nearly identical to the CAL-VAC, the POS-A-SET relieves ultra-low pressures in the positive direction, the inverse of the CAL-VAC's ultra-low relief in the negative direction. Contact us if you are unsure which one you need.
Two sides of the CAL-VAC rupture disc
When system vacuum approaches the burst pressure setting on the ultra-low vacuum side, a clamp is loaded until it deflects backward, passing over a set of blades in the holder. As the clamp passes over the blade, the seal splits in a triangular pattern to relieve the vacuum.
On the higher-pressure side, the perforated metal top section, under tensile load, relieves pressure in the direction opposite the clamp. It incorporates CDC's seven-hole pattern at the apex of the rupture disc dome. Together, the seven-hole pattern and the six pre-scored sections create a non-fragmenting design.
In addition, the pre-punched holes in the top section provide optimal flow through the disc when ultra-low vacuum is relieved through the clamp.
CAL-VAC Rupture Discs vs. POS-A-SET Rupture Discs
The difference between the CAL-VAC and the POS-A-SET is the orientation of the pressure relief components. The CAL-VAC relieves ultra-low pressure in the vacuum direction (negative pressure), while the POS-A-SET relieves ultra-low pressure in the positive pressure direction.
Both designs:
Relieve pressure as low as 1 inch of water column (inwc) differential.
Are dual-acting, providing protection for both positive and negative pressure.
Can be manufactured to meet 3A sanitary standards when used with a sanitary fitting holder assembly.
Offer lower maintenance costs and greater reliability compared to a valve, increasing your system's productivity.
Have no moving parts, eliminating the possibility of mechanical failure.
