Description
A sensor and cable system that transmits a disc rupture notification to the MTB-700 alarm monitor (or other monitoring system).
The BDI-FLX uses a sensor strip with a flexible potentiometer to instantly signal a disc rupture. It is designed for use with ASME and DIN flanges or sanitary applications. When combined with an alarm monitor, this system protects lives, equipment, and the environment.
The BDI-FLX rupture disc sensor system provides instant notification of a rupture disc rupturing. When combined with an alarm monitor, this system protects lives, equipment, and the environment.
Designed for use with ASME and DIN flanges or sanitary applications, the BDI-FLX employs a sensor strip with a flexible potentiometer (an electrical component that varies resistance in response to deflection) to signal the rupture of a disc.
How the BDI-FLX Rupture Disc Sensor System Works
The BDI-FLX Rupture Disc Sensor System maintains a continuous signal with an alarm monitor. If the disc ruptures, the BDI-FLX Sensor System notifies the alarm monitor by opening the electrical circuit.
Continental Disc alarm monitors contain replaceable modules with individual channel relays. Each channel relay connects to one BDI-FLX Sensor System. When the rupture disc ruptures and the BDI-FLX Sensor System signals the event, a specific relay is activated, sending a signal to the control panel.
The BDI-FLX Sensor System can be adapted to a variety of warning devices. Control panels, annunciators, light panels, or other signaling devices can be used to warn of a ruptured disc. Individual relay circuitry allows users to monitor several BDI-FLX Sensor Systems simultaneously. The BDI-FLX Sensor System can also signal overpressure situations when combined with pumps, valves, and other systems. If the BDI-FLX Sensor System loses power, it resets to an open circuit. The BDI-FLX Rupture Disc Sensor System is available for gas or liquid applications.
For fully liquid applications, the BDI-FLX Sensor System requires a sudden movement to signal. A slow reversal of the rupture disc, as occurs with thermal expansion of the liquid, will not cause the BDI-FLX Sensor System to signal. A small crack in the disc's score line will not cause a BDI-FLX Sensor System indication.
Please note that the BDI-FLX Sensor System is designed to signal within a few milliseconds, so complete reversal and full opening of the rupture disc must occur in that time. If there is no full liquid flow at the set pressure or a gas head present during disc rupture, contact us for an evaluation.
