Description

B.D.I.® alarm strips instantly trigger a warning when a rupture disc bursts. The B.D.I. is only one component of the BDI-FLX sensor system, designed for use with LaMOT standard and composite rupture discs.

How It Works

The BDI-FLX system is a closed, low-power circuit. When a rupture disc bursts, it cuts the alarm strip and interrupts the circuit, activating a monitoring device. This signals that an overpressure condition has occurred and that the medium is being vented. The B.D.I. does not affect the service life or performance of the rupture disc.

Tested and Accepted by ASME

Years of testing in our ASME-accepted flow test laboratory demonstrate the reliability of the B.D.I. when used with LaMOT rupture discs. Years of field success have helped earn the trust of engineers and operations personnel worldwide.

B.D.I. Features:

Resistance to chemical attack and corrosion

Usability across a wide temperature range

Easy replacement after the disc ruptures

Compatibility with LaMOT rupture discs

Maximum current: 50 milliamps

Maximum voltage: 24 VDC RMS

Operating temperature range: 40°F to +400°F (‑40°C to +204°C)

Minimum relief pressure: See table, Minimum Pressure for the Universal B.D.I.

DETAILS

The B.D.I. alarm strip is generally made up of copper conductors (tantalum available on request) bonded to a thin strip of Kapton® film. The conductors pass through the flange gasket and terminate with a molded plug or bare wires. Our two standard gasket materials are non-asbestos fiber or GYLON® 3500, a silica-filled PTFE.

The lead wire assembly links the alarm strip to the monitoring system. A flexible two-pin plug, resistant to abrasion and weather, protects the terminals at the connection point. Alternatively, a design with shielded cable and bare wires is available. The cable is available in lengths of 6, 10, or 20 feet.

Use the lead wire assembly to connect the alarm strip to the alarm monitor. The lead wire assembly is available in lengths of 6, 10, 20, 50, 75, 100, 200, and 300 feet, with a standard connector and a strain relief device at one end and bare wires at the other.

Versatility and Compatibility

The B.D.I. is compatible with rupture disc and holder assemblies that are installed between a range of standard bolted flanges. Custom designs are also available. Contact us for more information.

Complete BDI-FLX System Components

The BDI-FLX sensor system consists of an alarm strip connected to a monitoring unit, computer, annunciator panel, and control panel. Depending on your application, other equipment may be included.

Cleaning
We offer discs prepared for cleaning for oxygen or chlorine applications, ensuring safe and efficient service.

Corrosion resistance
We provide corrosion-resistant fluoropolymer linings and coatings as needed. Other protective materials are also available on request.

Dent protectors
If the outlet dome (vent side) of your disc is exposed or at risk of damage, use a dent protector to prevent incidents.

Gaskets
Ensure a tight seal, even in holders that may have scratches or pitting, by installing a high-quality gasket.

Handling supports
Improper handling during installation can affect the burst pressure setting. We recommend using handling supports when installing thin or delicate rupture discs to prevent damage.

Protective rings
Add a protective ring to prevent damage to more fragile rupture discs or delicate linings that may be exposed to foreign materials in the seat area.

Vacuum supports
Protect your rupture disc under vacuum conditions by using a suitable vacuum support. If you require protection against back pressures above 14.7 psig (1.01 barg), consult your LaMOT representative to determine the ideal solution.

When ordering a rupture disc to operate under vacuum conditions, it is important to specify the exact details. Our vacuum supports are designed as an integral part of the rupture disc and are permanently attached to ensure correct installation.

Seat design
The LaMOT standard rupture disc is available in two seat options: "light lip" and "heavy lip," both with a 30° angle. The size and class of the holder bolts determine the type of seat required. For more details on using heavy-lip seats, see Table 1. If the seat type is not specified in Table 1, a light lip will apply.
